I don't want to seem maudlin . . . but I do want to again say how deeply touched I was yesterday with the tributes given during the Pastor's Appreciation time. The thoughts expressed mean more to me than anyone could ever realize. We have worked together for the kingdom of God for many years . . . we have come through good times and difficult times . . . through a very busy time planning our anniversary . . . and I appreciate being reminded that I am appreciated. You are too! It must be time for a "congregational appreciation day . . .

And so our service didn't go "as planned" [as I planned?]. We had an order of service that was put aside. I once read the suggestion that in many churches God is expected to follow the order of service as printed in the bulletin. One reason I don't print an order of service is that we never know where the Spirit of God will take us [or where technological problems will take us] Sundays! God met with us, touched our hearts, challenged us, and encouraged us as we, the family of God, met and celebrated yesterday . . . and that's what Sundays are all about.

Our message looked at the question Now What? Now that the work preparing for our anniversary celebrations is done. Now that the work on the building is mostly completed, and now that the Reunion Banquet and the Celebration Service are over . . . now what?

Now that we've remembered Fletcher Tink planting First Church and Everett Haner and Ken MacMillan planting Grace Church and Bill Coulter and the move to Avalon Place and Pastor Al and the Bridlewood plant and our attempts to begin Spanish and Sudanese churches and up to Trinity Church now . . . now what?

I suggest that we continue doing what we were doing before – sharing the good news of Jesus with the world around us through word and deed! To read our message, click here.

Next Sunday is Remembrance Day, and the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War. In our service we will reflect on the world as it is . . . on war and wars . . . on peace and on why it is so fleeting. And we will ask an important question – two, actually: Can I? Will I? in our message.

We will conclude our service remembering the Prince of Peace, as we celebrate the Lord's Supper together.

Speaking of the Prince of Peace, the Advent season is less than a month away. As calendars fill quickly, please note these church activities [there may be some minor adjustments yet]:

  • The first Sunday of Advent is December 2 . . . we'll celebrate communion in our service as we prepare our hearts for the season.
  • The second Sunday of Advent is December 9 . . . our day of musical celebration. Everyone who would like to share a special Christmas song or reading is welcome to participate – please see Matt as we look forward to a great time of congregational worship.
  • Following our December 9 service we will go out for our Festive Fellowship at a nearby restaurant.
  • The third Sunday of Advent is December 16. We will gather for our annual open house and fellowship at the parsonage for the evening [beginning at 6:30pm].
  • The fourth Sunday of Advent is December 23 . . . a time of worship and wonder as we look to the manger and the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.
  • Christmas Eve we'll gather for our candlelight service . . . a time of joyous reflection of the incarnation. Our service will begin at 7pm.
  • Matt will share our year-end message in our December 30 worship service.

The China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe will present the production My Dream at Algonquin College Commons Theatre Wednesday November 14 at 7:30 pm.

The Troupe features a cast of some 52 professional artists – acrobats, musicians, singers and dancers. They are in their 20’s and are all handicapped. Some cannot hear, some cannot see, some have mobility issues. To watch a video clip of the troupe, click here and here. Call Yi Cui [a member of Trinity Community Garden] at 613-422-6189 for tickets.

Let me know if you'd like a copy of the slide show presentation/copies of the pictures that were shown at the anniversary banquet. They can be copied to a flash disk or to a CD.
