You may not be able to buy candy sweet hearts for Valentine's Day this year, but you can still jump right in to all of the trappings of the day . . . chocolates and flowers and cards and a couples night out . . . and that's OK. On Thursday have a great day celebrating if you are so inclined. Just remember how loved you really are!

Love . . . that's what we'll focus on this coming Sunday. In particular . . . God's love. We will conclude our winter series on the old covenants by focusing on the new covenant – that which was promised in [because of what happened in?] the Garden of Eden.

We'll compare the first Adam with the second Adam, and embrace the hope that we have in Jesus – the son of David [it all works together!]. Oh, and we'll continue to "celebrate" together as we participate in the Lord's Supper – true communion.

And yes, we have come to the end of the classical old covenants – we've looked at Adam, at Noah, at Abram, at Moses, and at David. Yesterday we focused on the covenant that God struck with King David. We saw that David's understanding of "the throne to be established forever" was different than what God actually promised.

I mentioned the three parts of a conversation that were in play: what was said, what was heard, and what was meant]. What David heard was different than what God meant – his understanding of "throne" and "kingdom" got in the way. And that can happen to us as well at any time – we can hear what we want to hear rather than what God is telling us – if we don't honestly listen to His voice. Our message was based on 2 Samuel 7. Click here to read it.

We will honour David and Pamela on their recent marriage, with a "post-wedding" shower following our service March 3. Matt will host a potluck lunch at his home. We are collecting a "congregational cash gift" . . . please see one of your board members if you would like to contribute.

The day of our annual International Dinner and Food Fair Fellowship potluck dinner [isn't that a mouthful!] in celebration of our relationship with the churches we have partnered with in Cuba is nearing – it will take place following our February 24 service. We ask that you bring a meal representing your heritage/culture if you can, as we eat together.

Our focus is on the pastors and the congregations that we sponsor in La Maquina and in Almendares. During the month of February we receive a special offering for them.

We have received some information from those of our district that visited with the pastors of the churches at their recent District Assembly; Nadine will share it on the 24th during her "Missions Moment" in our service, along with a better introduction to Eliezer, the child we have agreed to sponsor.

Don't forget that we have the opportunity to skate at the Governor General's residence/Rideau Hall. Our congregation has the rink to ourselves for the evening of Friday March, 8 from 7:00-8:30 pm. Plan to come out to this family fellowship time and an evening of fun . . . invite someone to come with you!

Have you put the evening of March 24 into your calendar? Bridlewood Church will host a celebration service at 7:00 that evening. Note that we will meet with the Bridlewood congregation for Holy Week services again this year: Monday and Wednesday at Bridlewood at 7:00 pm; Tuesday and Thursday at Trinity at 7:00 pm, and Good Friday at Bridlewood at 4:30 pm [April 14-21].

We will hold our spring service of music and celebration in our April 28 service. We encourage everyone to participate . . . to sing  . . . to read . . . to share something! Matt will speak to us about our participation closer to the date.

We are inviting the members of the Ottawa Misfits motorcycle group to join us on May 26. We will prepare breakfast for the group and they will join us in our worship service before a "blessing of the bikes". Pray that God will bless and use this outreach opportunity for His glory. Our message: We're All Misfits!

We'll give it one more week . . . We are in the process of updating our church directory – would you help us by making sure that the information we have is current? Check the bulletin board to see if what we have on file is correct. We'll make the updated directory available [print or digital] at the end of the month.
