Well, we did it . . . we made it through . . . awkward as it may have been. We talked . . . openly and honestly . . . about the birds and the bees – from a Christian perspective. We weren't shy to talk about a wonderful gift that God has given us – a gift that we have found it embarrassing to talk about in the church. It shouldn't be.

The birds and the bees – one of those shush! topics in the church, although I'm not sure why it is. God created it. God instructed us. The Bible talks about it [at times more graphically than we might expect – see the Song of Solomon, for example]. You can download our message [click here] to read it – a biblical understanding of sex.

Let me be clear [because it appears that once again I may not have been so when I shared the announcements yesterday morning about what is to come]: this coming Sunday we are, in some ways, going to continue on yesterday's theme though we will also move the message that was originally planned for the end of the month up while not really looking at that topic.

OK, I can see where the confusion comes from! So perhaps . . . an explanation.

As I work on a preaching schedule, praying about and planning for our messages and themes in advance, I believe that God gives me direction as to where we should go. It is not "written in stone" but a general idea of where we should head so that we can grow as His people. As I worked through the ideas of our fall series on the things we don't talk about as a church a number of topics and concepts came to mind. The preaching schedule kind of flowed as it came together and as I came up with sermon titles and ideas.

Interestingly enough, I was one topic short – one Sunday "without a message" between the end of this series and the beginning of our Christmas series. The "missing Sunday" is Cindy and my wedding anniversary and I thought that it might be funny – a better term might be ironic – to talk about divorce that day [I am probably the only one to think the topic would be funny]; hence the title Today? Really? However, after I published the series with sermon titles and topics, we arranged a baby shower for Pamela and David . . . celebrating the soon arrival of Nylo.

So first, a reminder: a potluck dinner and baby shower has been planned for this coming Sunday following ourservice. Cindy, Emmanuelle, and Johania have planned a great time together. A sign-up list for our meal was circulated in our service yesterday morning – please contact Cindy [or e-mail me at the church] if you were not able to sign. Stay after the service and celebrate with us!

Back to this coming Sunday's message and trying to be clear [remember I said that we are going to continue on yesterday's theme though we will also move the message that was originally planned for the end of the month up while not really looking at that topic]: we will continue on something we talked about yesterday – family – moving the message title up though we won't focus on the topic of divorce. Does it make sense now? I hope so! Today? Really? has become Today? Really! as we look at strengthening the family unit as one of our responsibilities as a church.

We are working with Councillor Jean Cloutier's office and the City of Ottawa with regard to curb side garbage collection for the church. It seems strange that if more than one non-profit group uses a building then the facility is not eligible for free waste pick-up. I have called Councillor Cloutier and have written the City of Ottawa collection department about this and await a reply.

Until then we will recycle everything we can [which we should be doing any way]. And if we do create garbage we will have to take it away ourselves or pay for the city to take it for us.

Again I remind you that it is "that time of year" again – it is Movember. It is a month of fundraising for men's health and the search for cures for cancers specific to men. I have Movembered for the past 10 years. I do not set a specific fundraising goal, but do invite those who wish to click here to donate. Thank you.

The renewed FreeShare/Care and Share ministry is operational! Our Facebook page is up and running, and a few available items have been noted. Instead of having items stored at the church and opening the building once a month for people to come and see what is available, we'll post pictures of available items on this Facebook page and have people make arrangement for pick-up.

If you have "gently used" items that you no longer need and would like to give to someone who has a need send an e-mail along with a picture of the item to the church or to Emmanuelle, who is going to lead this ministry initiative.
